Raj K. Singla, M.D. Raj K. Singla, M.D., M.P.H. has been practicing ophthalmology in Southeast Texas for over the past twenty years. He received his doctorate of medicine in 1968. From there, he went on to become a Master of Surgery in Ophthalmology at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, one of the highest-ranked universities in South Asia. He went on to become the chief surgeon at a major Indian hospital and performed approximately 1500 major surgeries in a one-year period. Upon arrival to the United States, Dr. Singla continued his foray into the field of Ophthalmology. He earned a Masters in the Epidemiology of Eye Diseases from the University of Washington and went on to work as an instructor at the prestigious Tufts Medical Center. He also pursued a fellowship in retina-vitreous diseases at the University of Connecticut and was involved in the diagnoses and treatment of retinal vitreal problems. Dr. Singla has avidly continued his education into all aspects of ophthalmology while maintaining and treating a large patient base in his private practice. He is a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and a fellow of the American Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. Singla has become well-versed in the uses of the excimer laser. He has successfully completed his VISX and Nidek certification. Dr, Singla keeps a pulse on all the new advancements in eye medicine. He acquires new instruments frequently to take advantage of the new advancements in technology. This offers the doctor better insight into the patient’s condition and provides the patient with better care through earlier detection. Many of Dr. Singla’s patients have been under his care since he first opened his practice. He has treated them, their family members and friends. Shawn Kavoussi, M.D. Dr. Kavoussi is a Board Certified, Fellowship-trained Vitreo-Retinal Specialist. He completed his Fellowship in Vitreo-Retinal Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine, where he also served as a Clinical Instructor. Prior to his Fellowship, Dr. Kavoussi completed his ophthalmology residency at Yale University School of Medicine, where he won the Resident Research 1st Place Award. After earning his Medical Degree at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Dr. Kavoussi completed an Ophthalmic Pathology / Research Fellowship at the John A. Moran Eye Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. His undergraduate degree was completed at Rice University, where he was on the President’s Honor Roll and the Dean’s List. Dr. Kavoussi is fluent in both English and Spanish languages.
Michael W. Mapp, M.D., MS Dr. Mapp is a Glaucoma Specialist who earned his Medical Degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio. Dr. Mapp completed his Fellowship in Glaucoma at the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, where he performed research on new glaucoma implants and conducted clinical trials. While at UTMB, Dr. Mapp served as a Clinical Associate Professor and was on the Glaucoma Faculty. Prior to earning his medical degree, Dr. Mapp completed a Masters of Science in Chemistry from North Carolina A&T State University. His undergraduate degree was earned from the University of North Carolina, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry. Among his awards and honors are being named ‘Outstanding Young Man of America,’ earning the American Cancer Society Fellowship, earning the Turrentine Scientific Scholarship and being named Academic Medicine Scholar, National Medical Fellowship.
Petros E. Carvounis, M.D. Dr. Carvounis is a Board Certified, Fellowship-trained Vitreo-Retinal Specialist. He completed his Fellowship training in Diseases and Surgery of the Retina and Vitreous at Baylor College of Medicine. After completing an Internship in Internal Medicine at the prestigious Mayo College of Medicine in Rochester, MD, Dr. Carvounis performed his Ophthalmology Residency at The George Washington University in Washington, DC. He earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Oxford in Oxford, UK. His undergraduate degree is from the University of Cambridge (Trinity College) in Cambridge, UK. Dr. Carvounis has served as a Clinical Professor at The George Washington University and as a Clinical Associate Professor at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. He is an award-winning surgeon who has been listed among the ‘Top Doctors In Houston,’ ‘Top 40 Under 40,’ and the ‘Best Wrangler’ Award-winner by the Vit-Buckle Society.
George R. Walters, M.D. Dr. Walters is a Board-Certified comprehensive ophthalmologist graduated from the University of Texas Medical Branch School of Medicine. He has has been practicing complete ophthalmic eye care for over three decades. His unique background, training, and experience in ophthalmology enable him to work with a broad spectrum of patients with various eye diseases and pathology. He is experienced in cataract removal and lens implantation, glaucoma management, diabetic eye disease management, contact lens fittings, and primary vision exams. He accepts new patients of all ages, including children and accepts all insurances, including Wellcare. He is fluent in both English and Spanish.
